The Haiku Foundation<\/span> Background<\/h2>\n

The Haiku Foundation, first envisioned by Jim Kacian in 2004, was created in 2006, primarily as a set of resources available to any interested party. It became an online entity in 2008, and was chartered in the Commonwealth of Virginia on January 6, 2009. Since our inception, we have become an indispensable resource for English-language haiku.<\/p>\n

The mission of The Haiku Foundation is threefold:<\/p>\n

1) to archive our first century of English-language haiku,<\/h4>\n

2) to expand possibilities for our second, and<\/h4>\n

3) to seek active exchange with other haiku languages and cultures around the world.<\/h4>\n

All other haiku groups \u2014 from journals to societies to conferences \u2014 have been created to help the individual poet realize his or her creative dream, be it education, publication or social contact. The Haiku Foundation does not follow this model. THF instead is a series of projects organized not for poets per se, but for haiku itself. The realization of these projects will in due course help all haiku poets. The Haiku Foundation is where poets go when they want to give back.<\/p>\n
