Registered by Sari Grandstaff in 2007 and initiated as a project of The Haiku Foundation in 2012, International Haiku Poetry Day<\/strong> occurs in the heart of the United States\u2019 celebration of National Poetry Month. The Haiku Foundation sponsors events in three domains: the HaikuLife Haiku Film Festival, Earthrise Rolling Haiku Collaborative, and IHPD Gatherings. We also choose this day to announce the winners of the annual prestigious Touchstone Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

HaikuLife Haiku Film Festival<\/h2>\n

This collection of short films, created by individual poets, groups, and organizations, celebrates the diversity of haiku around the world. It features some of the most creative work ever done in film, as well as the creation and presentation of chapbooks, group readings, announcements of special events, and much more.<\/p>\n

EarthRise Rolling Haiku Collaboration<\/h2>\n

The world\u2019s largest collaborative poem, this interactive shared event features poets’ responses to a \u201cseed poem,\u201d or to the responses of other poets, or even to the introduction of new threads aligned with the theme.<\/p>\n

Haiku Gatherings<\/h2>\n

Even in our digital age, the heart of haiku is meeting with fellow poets to read, write, and share poetry together, often in the context of a nature walk (ginko<\/i>), a caf\u00e9 reading, a museum presentation, or other public gathering). Nevertheless, we have not promoted live events since the COVID pandemic, though we will continue to highlight local events held on or around IHPD when information is supplied to us. As such, there is no archive of past IHPD local events, but here are some highlights from our early years.<\/p>\n
