Bibhu’s Story Datta Rout is a page turner. Fed up with constant refusals of his writing, he founded StoryMirror, a literary platform, which welcomes both readers and writers. It expects 580 million new speakers of vernacular languages in India by 2023-2024. How does the business work?
“A writer finds our platform through referrals or search engines. They can submit stories in multiple formats (story / poem / quote / audio) and languages. They can select cover images for their books from a library of a million cover images, crop, change color, font, etc. before submitting. Editors give ratings. The editing process is partly automated and partly manual, “he said. he declares.
Rural children, explains the bibliopreneur, when they become adults, “will be the first beneficiaries of this market if they are well prepared”.
Rout considers all 20,000 children on its platform to be equal. “There will be a time when after we die, our children and grandchildren will come to find out what we looked like, how we thought and what we did with our lives. Our stories will be a doorway to our existence,” says -he.
StoryMirror’s revenue model? Publishing services, content licensing, e-book and e-book sales, and branding campaigns generate revenue. “In the near future, subscriptions will be open.”
Rout is building a set of new products, which will help writers increase their skills, monitor their income, and fuel their aspirations to produce national bestsellers. His answer is gamification modules that allow authors to support their content. This will generate more consumer interest, he believes.
“Although we are focusing on digital, we will not be leaving the physical space of the book,” he says. Thanks to the author dashboard and other marketing and distribution tools, the site brings full transparency to the literary ecosystem. The efforts of this bibliophile have earned him tangible rewards.
Its writers have received Youth Icon Awards from Sahitya Akademi. “We believe that every moment is a story and that with every nano thoughts change. Every story has the power to influence millions of other humans,” he said.
The next chapter? Bring together seven billion writers under one roof.
