Book exhibition held as part of Vagif Poetry Days in Shusha, Azerbaijan (PHOTO)


BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 14. Vagif Poetry Days began in Shusha, Azerbaijan on July 14, Trend reports.

This event is organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan and the Union of Azerbaijani Writers.

Vagif Poetry Days (named after the 18th-century Azerbaijani poet, founder of the realistic genre in Azerbaijani poetry), which has a 40-year history, was held in the cultural capital of Azerbaijan for the second time after Shusha’s liberation from occupation.

Poetry days with the participation of culture and art workers, members of the Writers’ Union, young writers, poets and veterans began on July 14 with the opening of an exhibition of books in front of the Karabakh hotel.

Popular Azerbaijani writer Anar Rzayev greeted the guests at the opening ceremony.

Deputy Chairman of the Writers’ Union of Azerbaijan Rashad Majid said the exhibition featured books by more than 100 poets and writers.

Presentations of books ‘Dastan of Karabakh. 30 years of waiting – Victory of 44 days’ and ‘All roads lead to Shusha’ on Vagif Poetry Days in Shusha, prepared on the initiative of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers, were presented within the framework of the event.

‘Dastan of Karabakh. Thirty Years of Waiting – Victory in 44 Days’ was prepared on the initiative of the Chairman of the Writers’ Union of Azerbaijan, popular writer Anar.

It contains the memories of writers – natives of Karabakh in their native lands.

For example, Elchin Afandiyev wrote on Shusha, Ramiz Rovshan on Gubadli, Seyran Sakhavat on Fuzuli and Elchin Husseynbayli on Jabrayil, Agil Abbas on Aghdam.

This book also contains detailed information about the history, literature and music of Karabakh, poems dedicated to Karabakh and articles of journalists written last year after the “Kharybulbul” music festival.

The author and editor of the book’s preface is Rashad Majid.

Elchin Iskandarzada, Elshan Azim, Arzu Asad, Intigam Yashar and others talked about their books at the event. Poet and publicist, member of the Azerbaijani Writers’ Union Ramiz Gusarchayli read a poem dedicated to Shusha.

The inauguration of the museum-mausoleum of Molla Panah Vagif
[famous Azerbaijani poet of the 18th century] and the House of Poetry in Shusha on January 14, 1982, with the participation of the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev was a manifestation of his great attention to national literature, history and culture.

It was within the framework of this trip that the national leader Heydar Aliyev gave instructions to organize Vagif Poetry Days, and from July 29 to August 3, 1982, this event was held in Shusha for the first time.

From that day until 1991, Vagif Poetry Days were held annually in Shusha, distinguished by their uniqueness in the history of modern Azerbaijani literature.
