HICKORY – Redhawk Publications has announced the publication of “Repeat After Me”, Kathy Ackerman’s sixth collection of poetry and seventh publication; some of his other collections are titled “A Quarrel of Atoms”, “Coal River Road”, and “Knock Wood”.
Ackerman began writing seriously in high school, but had several long hiatuses over the years. Ackerman was dean of arts and sciences and writer-in-residence at Isothermal Community College for more than 15 years, and she taught English for two decades before becoming an administrator.
“I had fun writing several of these frankly honest poems. While the subject matter was still quite serious at times, I took myself less seriously to snicker here and there,” Ackerman said. “I think this book will appeal to those who like to remember that we are surrounded by meaningful imagery, symbols, and metaphors; even the most ordinary events can provoke ideas that enrich our daily lives. Also, people who have loved and lost will identify with these poems, so pretty much everyone.
Redhawk Publications editor Robert Canipe remarked, “Kathy Ackerman’s ‘Repeat After Me’ is a wonderful collection full of humor and honesty, but also of the good times and bad times we all go through in life. “Repeat After Me” is a collection of poetry you’ll want to read right away, because it gets better with every page. »
