Chapbook contest by Maine Media and The Poets Corner open for submissions

Maine Media Workshops + College partners with The Poets Corner to host Poetry Prize. The winning entry will receive a prize of $ 1,000 and 20 copies of a limited edition letterpress printed chapbook. The winning chapbook will be selected by distinguished poet, Naomi Shihab Nye.

Nye is the author of numerous collections of poems, most recently Everything Comes Next – Collected and New Poems (Greenwillow Books 2020) and Cast Away: poems for our time (Greenwillow Books, 2020). His other books of poetry include The little journalist (Boa Editions, 2019); Voices in the Air: poems for listeners (Greenwillow Books, 2018). Transfer, You and yours, who received the Isabella Gardner Prize for Poetry; and 19 Varieties of Gazelle: Poems from the Middle East.

Nye is the Young Poet Laureate from the United States through the Poetry Foundation.

The winning chapbook will be designed and printed in the Charles Altschul Studio for Book Arts in limited edition, handcrafted and printed on letterpress.

The competition is open to all applications. Poems included in the submission may have been published in journals, but not in a previous collection. Submissions will be reviewed anonymously. See details at www.thepoetscorner.org.

The Poets Corner is a platform created to foster community between writers and readers of poetry and short prose. Founded by former Maine Media Workshops + College president Meg Weston and author / writer coach Kathrin Seitz, The Poets Corner is based in Mid-Coast Maine and hosts virtual readings on the second or third Sunday of each month.
