Lord & Miller on ‘Afterparty’ Season 2, ‘Silk’ and more – Deadline

Today on Crew Call, the after party architects Phil Lord and Christopher Miller explain how they took what was a concept of functionality at TriStar over 10 years ago and turned it into a Rashomon comedy series for Apple TV+.

The streamer literally died for this, so much so that he greenlighted a Season 2 writers room before the after party even debuted. Season 2’s murder takes place at a wedding, with Tiffany Haddish’s Detective Danner returning, aided by Sam Richardson’s Aniq and Zoe Chao’s Zoe to find the culprit. John Cho, Ken Jeong, Elizabeth Perkins, Zach Woods and Poppy Liu also star. From the sounds, each episode will center around a pair of suspects versus Season 1’s concept of one per episode. And the murder victim this time around isn’t similar to Dave Franco’s Xavier – that’s all the pair can say. The cameras are already rolling.

Apple TV+ “The Afterparty”

The duo, who first honed their acting skills as friends in Dartmouth and saw their Hollywood careers take off after being discovered by Disney boss Michael Eisner, talk about the fate of big-screen comedies, about their thriller writing process and why they’re submitting season 1 episode 3, “Yasper” for Emmys consideration.

They’re also teasing their upcoming Sony TV Marvel spider worms live action series Silk, their Freevee Yellowstone parody, as well as the much-needed delays on Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse, is due out June 2, 2023, and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, now open March 29, 2024.

Miller directed every episode of the after party, both serving as EPs.
