Quest Art wants to hear from local bards for a ‘poetry slam’

Quest Art school + Gallery is looking for poets to participate in their first poetry slam, which is scheduled to take place in February.

The planned monthly event is organized in partnership with Grounded Coffee.

This event is part of Quest’s ongoing commitment to provide a platform and venue for art forms under-represented in the community, such as the language arts, and to provide an accessible and inclusive platform. for emerging and young artists.

Each month, poets and writers from all stages of practice and style are invited to write a piece of poetry congruent with a theme and writing prompt defined by the gallery. Themes are chosen based on current and upcoming Quest exhibitions, connecting the arts of language to the visual, in a tangible, fresh and creative way.

The writing prompt for this upcoming poetry slam is “___ will not be forgotten. “

Inspired by Marli Davis’ upcoming exhibition “Familiar Ghosts”, writers are encouraged to explore themes of memory, identity, familiarity and legacy.

There is no minimum or maximum number of words. Poets at all stages of the practice are welcome to participate, but emerging, young and new poets are especially encouraged and given special attention.

Applications are open until February 1, 2022.

To submit, poets can access a submission form through the Quest website or contact [email protected]
